There’s a friendly yet competitive spirit in the air as we approach our 9th annual Rivals for Life blood drive on November 19. Since 2006, Stanford Blood Center (SBC) and UC Berkeley have gone arm to arm to see who can collect more units of blood at their respective campus blood drives taking place the week leading up to The Big Game.
Our second largest blood drive of the year, nearly 300 faculty, staff, and students attend the drive, eager to donate blood and support the Cardinal. “It’s a great way to get students fired up and eager to make a difference in their community. We are all so busy yet every year, people are willing to stop what they’re doing to help beat their rival team!” notes Elisa Manzanares, SBC account manager for the Rivals blood drive. “In addition, we’re fortunate with the timing of this drive; it helps the blood supply as we prepare for the long Thanksgiving weekend.”
For those keeping score, we’re proud of all our donors who have helped us win the title the past six years in a row. But regardless of which campus comes out ahead, it’s important we not lose sight of the real winners. Patients come out far ahead when they can tell the story of how their life was saved because blood was available when they were counting on it.
Show your Cardinal pride while supporting patients in need! Make an appointment online or call 650-723-7831. Each donor will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
