STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford Blood Center hopes to see you at Princeton Plaza in San Jose on Mar.16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the 10th annual Paul B. Newman neighborhood blood drive.

Newman started this neighborhood blood drive 10 years ago after he and his son were in a major car accident on Highway 85. Struck by a vehicle speeding more than 100 miles per hour, their car rolled over, and they were rushed to a trauma center. Later, Paul and his son asked the paramedics who helped them how they could give back to the community. The paramedics responded, “Give blood as often as you can.”

He took their suggestion to heart. Not only does Newman donate blood, he has become a powerful advocate and organizer for the cause, inspiring countless others to give back, too. Newman said, “I never imagined how life could change in a fraction of a second. My family and I have sponsored this blood drive twice a year since 2003 in the hope of bringing our community together to help others who find themselves in the frightful situation of needing a blood transfusion. It truly is the gift of life.”

Each year, this drive has grown. The last drive collected close to 120 units of blood – an outstanding number for a neighborhood drive. Please come out and help us make this year another success!
