At Daly, we all waited for the day when we got to go to the smelly, cramped wrestling gym to donate blood. It was as much a rite of passage as getting your driver’s license. From there, I progressed to staffing the blood drive my senior year, then to Welch Road to the big times — both donating and working in the canteen. I loved working the mobile drives and meeting people out in the community, too. It’s been 30+ years, and I am about to reach donation 50 — a slow, continuous effort to do my part, and a nod back to that teenager.
