Get in the Habit

On Thursday, January 8, our Hillview Avenue center hosted a highly successful “Get in the Habit” event to enable donors to learn about easy, healthy habits to adopt in 2009, as well as to donate blood.

Donors were provided a t-shirt and tote bag, and entered for a drawing for 3 prizes, Representatives from Stanford’s Health Improvement Program and Reach Fitness Club of Palo Alto did assessments, while Chiropractic doctors from Advanced Health Center of San Jose did stress testing and chair massages. Master Li from Li’s Wushu Academy provided an unforgettable Tai Chi demonstration with students and family members, and then gave a class for adventurous donors.

Everyone feasted on healthy snacks donated by Whole Foods Market and the Kan Zeman Restaurant in Palo Alto. Blood recipients Meghan Masterson & Ron Preston stopped by to express their appreciation to our donors. All told, we collected 52 whole blood units plus 22 red blood cell units by apheresis. Many thanks to all benefactors, and especially our loyal blood donors who gave our inventory a big boost for 2009!
