Other Ways to Help
It takes more than blood to run Stanford Blood Center. Since a majority of the population is not eligible to give blood, many people choose to help us in different ways. Read on to learn more about how to host a blood drive, make a financial gift or volunteer.
Host a Blood Drive
Stanford Blood Center conducts mobile blood drives throughout the Bay Area, collecting approximately half its annual blood supply in this manner. Companies, churches and civic groups find that blood drives on site make donating blood convenient for their employees/members. In addition, people find that a spirit of giving with friends and co-workers is very satisfying. Whether donation takes place in Stanford Blood Center's bloodmobile or in a room provided by the organization, having the Blood Center come to you is a plus!
Our account representatives will provide appropriate publicity, help with appointments and work out all the details to help YOU create a successful blood drive. If you would like to schedule a mobile blood drive or would like more information, please contact John Williams, Donor Recruitment Manager, at 650-723-7265 or .
Please note that in most cases 20 donors or more are necessary to create a viable mobile drive. If you have a group of less than 20 donors, please contact Lupe Alcantar, Center Recruitment Supervisor, at 650-726-1058 to inquire about a special small group event at one of our centers.
Make a Financial Gift
Help Stanford Blood Center save lives! Area demand has outpaced our ability to collect enough blood to supply the hospitals we serve. Adding a new six-bed bloodmobile will allow us to collect 3,500 more units of blood each year. Because we are self-supporting, we must seek outside funds to purchase this vehicle.
Your tax-deductible financial contribution will help us expand our reach into the community so we can continue to serve patients in need. Click the "Make a gift" button to donate online. If you would prefer to mail your charitable gift, please send it to:

Volunteers may choose among positions at our Centers (in Palo Alto and Mountain View) as well as at blood drives located throughout the Bay Area at businesses, community organizations, schools, etc.

Opportunities Include:
Post-donation Canteen Host: Interact with donors after their donation and monitor their recovery; serve donors refreshments.
Label Table: Prepare blood bags for donors, label donor medical history sheets, donor bags and test tubes, and match labeled bags to donors waiting to donate.
